Bariloche & the Seven Lakes
DAY BY DAY
You pick up the car rental at Bariloche airport and drive across the patagonian steppe and along the shore of Nahuel Huapi Lake to Villa La Angostura Town, embedded between a magnificent mountain scenery.
In the afternoon you may stroll around the picturesque summer village or enjoy the wonderful views from your hotel.
The 7-Lakes Route meanders across steep mountains, thick valdivian rainforest and alpine lakes, displaying views of great beauty.
The forest conceals small villages of warm wood-structure buildings. Breweries, chocolate shops and delicatessen are the trait of the region and definitely worth a visit.
In the afternoon you arrive to Lago Lácar and San MartĂn de los Andes Town, nestled in a deep valley in the Andes Mountain Range.
Driving out of San MartĂn de los Andes, the perfect snowy cone of LanĂn Volcano appears on the horizon.
The route leads to JunĂn de los Andes Town and Huechulafquen Lake, framed by serene araucaria trees.
Puerto Canoa Pier stands at the end of the narrow road. From there, you may take a charming navigation between islands, forests and solidified basaltic flows.
Night in San MartĂn de los Andes.
You head back south to Traful Lake, a sparkling gem of water with green grazing land and sandy beaches.
You then follow the course of RĂo Limay back to Bariloche. The river finds its way between the basaltic rocks of Valle Encantado (Enchanted Valley) with its strangely eroded rock formations.
Day visit to Mount Tronador. The extinguished volcano is an imposing guardian of the valley, topped by eternal snow and hanging glaciers. The ice cracks fall down the cliffs and roar like thunder, thus giving it its name –Tronador, or thundering.
From the parking area you may pick trails of varied length and difficulty up the thick mountain.
Driving along Nahuel Huapi Lake shore you reach the world famous Llao Llao Hotel & Golf Resort and from a nearby chapel you enjoy excellent views of the hotel, the vertical walls of Cerro Lopez, Puerto Pañuelo and the surrounding bays and lakes.
You continue through deep Andean forests and uphill to a natural balcony offering breathtaking views of lakes, mountains and the mighty Andes Mountain Range.
In the afternoon you return the rental car at Bariloche airport.
