HIGHLIGHTS
Valles Calchaquíes and Quebrada de Humahuaca
DAY BY DAY
Welcome at Salta airport and transfer to Cafayate. Leaving the lowlands behind, the road slowly ascends into the scenic “Quebrada del Rio de las Conchas” (Shell Canyon), where nature majestically displays the power of tectonic forces and erosion. Gradually the wide gorge opens into the extensive vineyards of Cafayate.
Rest of day is at leisure to enjoy the peaceful surrounding.

Leaving Cafayate towards the North we cross the impressive formations of “Quebrada de las Flechas” with captivating sceneries of sedimentary layers rising like enormous arrows into the sky.
We visit traditional towns and high mountain vineyards and spend the night in the quiet village of Molinos.

The small and winding road leads us to the little town of Cachi, situated at the northern part of the “Calchaquies Valleys” at 2,200 m above sea level.
From here the road gently makes its way up through “Los Cardones National Park” with its tall and elegant candelabra cacti, before descending through the spectacular Cuesta del Obispo down to Salta City.

Following the tracks of the famous “Train to the clouds” we ascend the “Quebrada del Toro” to San Antonio de los Cobres and continue along the great plains of the Puna with its clear skies and endless horizons to the magnificent salt lake of “Salinas Grandes”.
Late afternoon we descend into “Quebrada de Humahuaca” through the picturesque “Cuesta de Lipán“.

In the morning enjoy the multicolored Cerro de los Siete Colores, displaying its entire splendor once the first sunrays appear over the surrounding hills.
We enclose all day to explore the hidden corners and silent valleys in the colorful “Quebrada de Humahuaca” and culminate with an ascent to Sierras del Hornocal to enjoy the magic game of colors of the late afternoon.

Leaving Humahuaca behind, the road winds through the humid cloud forest which covers the mountain slopes with compact and thick vegetation, locally known as the “Yungas”; a thin line of subtropical rainforest along the PreCordillera.
Transfer to Salta Airport and continue with your individual tour program.
