HIGHLIGHTS
Ushuaia & Tierra del Fuego
DAY BY DAY
Rental car pick up at Ushuaia Airport and rest of day at leisure to explore the city.
The southernmost city of the world is an obliged stop for scientific expeditions, cruises to Antarctica and transoceanic ships and holds colorful stories of grand adventurers and ill-fated darers.
Tierra del Fuego National Park amazes with its exuberant flora and fauna and well lined out footpaths and trails leading to panoramic viewpoints for a fully rewarded nature experience.
In the afternoon you navigate on Beagle Chanel. The rocky islets host colonies of sea lions, cormorants and many other bird species. Picturesque Les Eclaireurs lighthouse stands out, signaling sailors safely back into Ushuaia Bay.
You visit historic Estancia Harberton and continue past Paso Garibaldi to Fagnano Lake. The vibrating blue lake is 104 km long and separates the rugged Andean landscape on the south shore from the smother steppe on the north.
The road to the Atlantic coast is flanked by lenga and ñire trees. Flag trees, arched by the stubborn wind, spread all around Tierra del Fuego’s eastern steppe.
Cabo San Pablo cape has an inspiringly lonesome landscape. The extensive beaches and cliffs contemplate Desdémona shipwreck battling the waves since 1983.
Drive back to Ushuaia and drop off the rental car at the airport.
